ABSOLUTE POKER
"You’ll want to know when the odds are on your side. It’s easy to master the ins and outs of pot odds and poker hand probabilities."
You can’t succeed without getting a firm handle on basic poker odds. While you might win occasionally relying on luck or your so-called instincts, you can’t really rule the tables without knowing your chances of completing a straight or flush on the river or how likely it is to land an overcard. Poker odds matter even more when playing online poker, since you can’t rely on most of the tells found in face-to-face games. Of course, understanding poker hand probabilities is only the beginning.
Pot odds let you know the risk vs. reward by describing the amount of cash in the pot compared to the cost of a call. If a pot contains $500 and you must call $50 to remain in the hand, then the pot odds are 10:1. These poker odds are regularly compared to the probability of winning a card with a future hand (see the poker hand probabilities) in order to guess the likelihood of a player being rewarded for their call.
You can find a thorough discussion of poker hand probabilities elsewhere on AbsolutePoker.net, but you can quickly master the fundamentals and learn the odds right here.
Poker odds let you know where you stand. You’ll want to master these odds, even if it doesn’t sound like your idea of excitement. Keep in mind that winning is fun, and poker odds can put you in the winner’s circle. You can not only use poker odds to help you bluff, but you’ll want to discuss them with other players to help you improve your game.
