I'm currently in the market for a new laptop computer after my old system – about six years in age – decided to call in dead for work.
Primarily, I've used my computer for paying bills, sending emails, surfing the internet and, of course, work.
But lately, after getting more and more involved in playing free online poker, I realize that there are certain characteristics my new laptop needs to help me maximize my online Texas Hold'em experience.
First and foremost is screen size. My old laptop was extremely portable, weighing in at just a few pounds. The 12" screen did the trick for most of my computer tasks. But when it came to playing online poker, I found myself in need of more screen real estate.
It's not that a single Texas Hold'em table can't fit on a 12" screen. Indeed it can. But with a larger screen, I'd be able to play multiple tables simultaneously, maximizing my winning potential at the free online poker tables. For that reason alone, I'm leaning towards a gorgeous 15" display.
Processor speed isn't a big deal for me, especially when it comes to running online poker software. For the most part, if you can run Windows XP, you'll have no problems playing online poker. Considering that most new PCs come with Windows Vista, Microsoft's latest operating system, you know you're getting hardware that can support the latest software.
The last feature I'm looking for is the ability to hook up the laptop to an external display for even more online poker space. While one would assume that such a feature is standard, I was surprised to discover several laptops that didn't feature DVI or VGA out. This port is extremely important for interfacing with my external display in my home office.
If I'm tired of the portability and decide to park myself at a desk for a game of online poker, I need to be able to hook my laptop up to my 23" external display and use it as second monitor for added screen real estate to park more online poker tables.
That wraps up what I'm looking for in an online poker laptop. I better focus less on writing about a computer and more on actually buying one. After all, not having a working laptop is standing in the way of my victory at the online poker tables.
